Estoril 2001 after loss to Chladkova

 

 

 

Denisa Chladkova surprises the top seed and champion  Anke Huber in the women's tournament in Estoril.  Anke was eliminated soon by Denisa Chladkova, in three sets, by the score of 7-5, 3-6 3 6-2. Chladkova, current world number 64 got the  first break of the match in the first service game. In the following game Huber could have broke back, but she was unable to.   In the seventh game, the German tennis star obtained to break back. The two following games were held and at 6-5, Chladkova guaranteed the first set by breaking last year's champion.   In the second set, Huber raised her game and after two breaks - in the fifth and ninth games - to tie the match. Before that, at 4-3 of this set , Huber's left foot was attended to.   In the third and final set, Chladkova would finished the set easily, and finished the match in one hour and 46 minutes.

'very I am disappointed ' declared Anke Huber

Anke Huber did not hide her discouragement after her defeat when she entered the press conference after her match with Denisa Chladkova,

'very I am disappointed by having been eliminated in the first round. I wanted to come back to win this match'  Today I did not enter this  meeting and, I have that to admit, I did not do anything well.  When I gained a set, I did not improve my level. This was my first meeting this year with Chladkova were she has beaten me.  They are things that happen... ', she said.

'I do not know if it was the muscle or the tendon.   The foot ached sufficiently when I supported it. I can't say that it was the reason that I lost the match but it did bother me sufficiently '.
